Assessment and Testing
At Peak Psychological Services, you will receive a thorough evaluation. We assess intelligence, academic skills, and personality traits using standardized tests accepted by schools and universities nationwide. Our evaluations can identify learning disabilities, attentional problems, and other conditions including anxiety and depression.
At your first appointment, your psychologist will talk with you in detail about your current difficulties and your background, then select a battery of tests based on your specific needs. Tests are administered at the second appointment, which typically lasts three to five hours. A final appointment is then scheduled for you to talk with your psychologist about your test results.
You will receive a written report that includes test scores, interpretation of your scores, and recommendations for treatment and academic accommodations. We can assure you of complete confidentiality. The report is exclusively yours to distribute as you choose — to your physician, counselor, or school. Psychological testing is often — but not always — covered by health insurance.
Therapy
Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is an effective, time-limited approach to personal change. CBT is collaborative, supportive, and individualized to each person. With CBT, you will work actively with your psychologist to develop goals and measure your progress.
In CBT, you will gain insight into negative thinking patterns and behavioral habits and learn tools to turn obstacles into assets. CBT has been shown to be highly effective at reducing worrying, obsessive thinking, panic attacks, social anxiety, and depression. CBT also provides many skills helpful in the management of ADHD.
At your initial appointment, your psychologist will talk with you about your difficulties and your goals. You will leave the first appointment with a clear idea of what you can expect from CBT and what the therapy will be like. You can then decide if this treatment would be a good fit for you and whether you would like to proceed.
